Review:
When Ray plays at Liars, the cats wail 18 karat. Translated -- in
case you aren’t the hippest daddy-o with the jazz lingo –
Blue and his sax have this supernatural power that transforms mere
music into extraordinary stuff of jazz legend. On this CD, one of
the Live at Liars series, Blue plays light, and dark, magician yet
mortal, through seven tracks, all but one written by Blue, who is
an accomplished composer, arranger and performer on tenor, alto and
soprano saxophones. The odd track out, So What, by Miles Davis, is
played by Blue with effortless complexity. The other five tracks are
equally playful, as effortless, and just as complex. A masterful cat
wailing 18-karat. |
