Review:
True story, triumphant story. In the summer of 1904 a little French
girl is orphaned in a shipwreck and sent to live with an embittered,
empoverished woman in an Oregon lumber camp. The girl, Opal, can’t
grasp the finality of death, and thus can’t connect with her
new mother. Cedar Rapids native Rob Nassif captured this drama of
awakening and unfolding love in an off-Broadway musical that won the
Richard Rodgers Production Award and earned the description of “enchanting”
by the New York Times. Nassif’s music embraces the lost child
and leads listeners through this captivating and inspirational story.
