Review:
Susan Shore has been writing songs since she was a teen, and has lots
of material from her checkered paths to write about – growing
up in New Jersey, settling in Iowa, then ending up in the Arkansas
Ozarks, odd jobs, adventures in Ireland, singing in coffeehouses and
prisons. In 1995 she surveyed her life and put together 11 songs –
three written by Shore, the rest including Steve Earle’s “The
Devil’s Right Hand” and a version of Yeat’s “The
Song of Wandering Aengus.” With Shore’s lush voice and
wise words, Old 218 is a road worth traveling. |
