Review:
In this CD, written a decade after her sweetly harmonic recording
debut (White), Carol Montag takes her singing/songwriting
talents to a next level, creating her own kind of music. She’s
folk, but a little bit different, brimming with the influence of her
heroes, Joni Mitchell, Judy Collins, Joan Baez and Shawn Colvin. But
she’s also singing as only Montag, a storyteller through song,
can do. In Marigolds she soulfully combines personal and spiritual
narrative lyrics that reflect her own growth, her mourning for opportunities
– and loved ones – lost, and her endless optimism.
